Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team ran its win streak to five after a
6-3 decision over Fort Hays State Tuesday afternoon in Kansas.
As usual, the Lopers (11-6) went into singles ahead in the team score. Junior
Nickola Messbarger (Kearney Catholic H.S.) and freshman
Tealyn Trimble (Kearney H.S.) won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to improve to 15-0 this spring.
In the second spot, sophomores
Candace Green (Kearney H.S.) and
Britni Norfolk (Brashear, Mo.) won by an 8-1 score to win a fifth straight match and up their record for 14-6 for the season.
UNK secured the dual by winning between No. 4-6 singles. In the fourth spot, Norfolk had a tough first set in getting past Melissa Skovira, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, with sophomore
Vanessa Gunawan (Indonesia) recording her team-leading 20th victory of the year by winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles.
Both Loper teams head to Colorado this weekend to face four RMAC rivals, starting Thursday at Metro State in Denver.
