Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Southwest Minnesota State freshman forward Miranda Cadena scored two goals to power the Mustangs to a 3-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon in Marshall, Minn.

This was the season opener for both teams and the debut of Loper head coach John Maessner.  With the road setback, the Lopers drop to 5-6 all-time vs. NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) schools.

Southwest, which tallied a total of 13 goals last fall, got on the board 11 minutes into the game when Cadena took a pass from fellow freshman Kendahl Fisher and scored.

On the day, UNK out shot Southwest by five, 20-25 but the Lopers couldn't get anything pass sophomore keeper Sonya Smith. She made nine saves and recorded her fifth career shut out

Southwest put the game on ice when they tallied two goals in the final 10 minutes. Cadena's second score of the game came at the 89:04 mark and off a pass from freshman Alison Baumgartner.

UNK junior Sarah Talcott (Denver) led the team in shots with three with sophomore Delanie Phillips (Millard West) and freshman Samantha Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) each recording two.
