Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout and took 21 shots in a 4-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
The Lopers (4-1) have now won a school-record four games in a row and have won the last three by a combined score of 10-0. UNK has now shut out the opposition for the last 324 minutes.
UNK did anything it wanted against the Rangers (0-5), a Division II provisional school that has now been outscored 16-2. The Lopers took 11 shots in the first half, 10 more in the second half and finished the day with 15 corners.
Sophomore
Tara Knowlton (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) got Kearney on the board by the 10 minute mark when she faked out her defender, spun around and fired a shot from about 25 yards out.
About four minutes later, freshman
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion LaVista-South) found an open Mckinzie Rieber on the right wing. Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tallied her team-high third goal as she made a shot from about 10 yards.
UNK already has had plenty of success scoring on corner kicks and both second half goals came on such plays. Right after halftime, freshman
Samantha Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) took a corner that bent toward the goal and the ball glanced off the Ranger keeper and into the goal for a 3-0 Loper lead.
At the 71 minute mark, junior
Missy Everson (Pasco, Wash.) headed in a corner taken by Knowlton. Everson, a junior college transfer, becomes the ninth Loper to score this fall and the first upperclassmen.
For the second time this year, senior
Marissa Niday (Fremont) and
Katelin Mielke (Millard West) combined for a shut out.
UNK starts MIAA play this weekend as Southwest Baptist visits Friday (7:00 p.m.) and No. 8 Central Missouri comes to town Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
