Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Freshman Karla Jamison scored her team-leading third goal of the year to help the Southwest Baptist Bearcats beat Nebraska-Kearney, 1-0, Friday night at the Health & Sports Center.
This was the MIAA opener for both teams. SBU, which won four games all of last season, improves to 4-2 while the Lopers fall to 4-2 and see a four-game win streak come to an end.
Southwest was the aggressor early on, taking the first three shots of the game. At the 26 minute mark, freshman Kate Jamison was moving down the right side of the field and found her sister, who had managed to get ahead of the Loper defense.
From the center of the field about 10 yards out, Jamison punched the ball past UNK keeper
Marissa Niday (Fremont) for the game's only goal. The Lopers had blanked its last two opponents and hadn't allowed a goal in over 350 minutes.
UNK out shot SBU for the game, 11-8, but couldn't get anything past Bearcat keeper Megan Link. She is part of a SBU defense that has allowed only four goals all season.
Freshman Mckinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had an excellent chance to tie the game before half as she beat Link but her shot went just wide of the net.
Rieber ended with a team-high three shots with sophomores
Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) and
Delanie Phillips (Millard West) each recording two. UNK also finished six eight corers to SBU's three.
Eighth-ranked Central Missouri comes to town Sunday at 1:00 p.m. They beat Fort Hays State, 1-0, Friday.
