Soccer Ties # 8 Central Missouri

Montanna Hosterman
Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team got a first half goal from freshman Montanna Hosterman and then held on to tie eight-ranked Central Missouri, 1-1 (2OT), Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

UNK is now 4-2-1 (0-1-1 MIAA) while the Jennies, defending league champs, are 4-0-2 (1-0-1).

This marks the Lopers third all-time tie against a Top 25 team, following last year's 1-1 battled with Colorado School of Mines and a 0-0 decision at Regis in 2010.

Twenty minutes into the game, freshman Mckinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was fouled hard by the Jennies. That resulted in a direct free kick from about 40 yards out.

Hostermann (Papillion LaVista South) took the kick and rocketed the ball to the goal where it went top shelf and just over the out stretched hands of UCM keeper Jessica Grindtaff.

The Jennies, which out shot UNK 21-5 and also had a 15-4 advantage in corners, was on the attack after that but couldn't get a ball past Loper senior keeper Marissa Niday (Fremont).

In the second half, Central Missouri had the ball on UNK's side of the field most of the time and, finally, junior Becky Lackey got free in the box and managed to record her team-leading fourth goal of the year in the 72nd minute.

Soon after, UNK sophomore Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) raced down the field and was near the UCM goal. From near the back line, she took a shot that pin balled off several players and got past Grindstaff for an apparent 2-1 Loper lead.

However, the officials declared the ball was out of bounds before it left Pawloski's foot.

UCM also scored a goal that was waved off. In the first overtime, Aaryn Burke headed in a direct kick taken by Jenna Stones. However, the officials ruled Burke interfered with Niday.

Hostermann led UNK in shots in the game (three) with Niday making 10 saves.

The Lopers are at the College of St. Mary next Friday afternoon and then travel back to Joplin, Mo., to face the Missouri Southern State Lions.
