Box Score Kearney, Neb. - The Washburn women's soccer team erupted for five first half goals en route to a 7-1 win over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
The Lopers fall to 6-4-1 (1-3-1 MIAA) while the Lady Blues (2-7, 2-3 MIAA) win for the second time this fall.
Washburn had tallied only six goals all season but almost reached that mark by halftime. Using its speed time and time again to get past Loper defenders, the Lady Blues scored at 7:25, 10:47, 14:27, 15:31 and 34:29.
Junior Caysie Beetley, who came in with three goals, recorded two today while assisting on two others. Seniors Leah Talley and Tia Stovall also scored twice with freshman Carlee Seitz tallying her first collegiate goal at the 67 minute mark.
Finally for Washburn, sophomore keeper Jenna Lack played for the first time in 2012 and stopped five shots to earn the win.
UNK almost grabbed a 1-0 as freshman Mckinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) got the ball past Lack just seconds into the match. However, the goal was taken off the board as the Lopers were called for being offsides.
In the second half, sophomore
Ashtin Pawloski (Hastings) had a high shot tipped by Lack. The ball went to the right where junior
Missy Everson (Pasco, Wash.) pushed it in for her second goal of the season.
Kearney heads South next weekend to face two of the MIAA's top squads in Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma.
