Tigers Slip Past Lopers

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Sara Cushing scored her 14th goal of the season to help the Doane Tigers slip past Nebraska-Kearney, 2-1, Wednesday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

With the win, Doane improves to 5-8 while the Lopers fall to 5-8-1.

Against a non-traditional Loper lineup, the Tigers recorded seven early shots. That included a goal in the 16th minute by Courtney Richards.

Scoring from the left wing, this marked her seventh goal of the fall.

Using its regular rotation of players for about the last 55 minutes, UNK ended the night with two more shots than the Tigers, 15-13.

Early in the second half, sophomore Holly Brown (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) tallied her first goal as a Loper. After looking for a teammate, the ball came back to her and she promptly let loose from 25 yards out.

Kearney had several chances to take the lead after that but couldn't find the back of the net. In the 79th minute, Doane controlled the ball after a UNK goal kick.

From the top of the box, sophomore Kelly Mozena found Cushing, who managed to get the ball past freshman keeper Kristen Rossi for her 30th point of the season (14 goals and two assists).

Cushing took six of Doane's shots with Richards having four. In goal, Kelsey Stark made five saves to earn her fifth win.

The Lopers saw four players take two shots a piece, including two on goal by Missouri junior Tara Knowlton.

UNK is at NW Missouri State and Missouri Western State this weekend.
