Week 8 Preview: Lopers Host Hot Lions

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team, fighting to make the MIAA Tournament, hosts Lindenwood University Sunday afternoon.

The contest begins at 1:00 p.m. from Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field. Live stats and an America One broadcast are available.

Last year in Missouri, the Lopers (6-8-2, 3-4-2) beat the Lions by a 3-2 score.  However, Lindenwood is vastly different from that 5-11-1 (1-10) squad.

Heading into a Friday night date at Fort Hays State, the Lions are tied for second in the MIAA standings with 16 points. They are 8-5-1 (5-1-1) and living right, with four wins in overtime and four wins by one goal.

Tallying 21 goals over 14 games, LWU is led by freshman Kate Roe with 13 points on six goals. Four others have scored three goals, including freshman Taylor Wade.

The Lions defense has been more than sturdy, allowing just 11 goals all season. Senior keeper Bailey Tracy has seven shut outs and stopped 82 saves while maintain a 0.75 GAA.

UNK and Emporia State are tied for sixth in the MIAA, each with 16 points. Central Oklahoma (10), Missouri Southern State (nine) and Hays (nine) are right behind and have a shot at making the eight-team postseason tournament.

The Lopers have six goals in its past eight games, pushing its season total to 18. Sophomore Montana Hosterman (five) and senior Becka Talcott (three) pace the UNK offense with nine others having scored at least once.

Defensively, Kearney has shut out five teams and held three others to a lone goal. Sophomore Katelin Mielke (Omaha) has a team-high 42 saves with senior Sarah Talcott (Denver, Colo.) and junior Lauren Hoeft (Holdrege) the only Lopers with over 1,400 minutes played this fall.

Next week, UNK hosts Hays to close out the regular season.
