Kearney, Neb. –
Senior Becka Talcott scored a penalty kick in the 107th minute to left Nebraska-Kearney to 1-0 win over Lindenwood Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

With the extra session victory, UNK (7-8-2, 4-4-2) greatly enhances its chances of making the eight-team MIAA Tournament. The Lopers have one regular season game remaining with the majority of the conference having two.

Currently, UNK is sixth in the standings with 14 points. Meanwhile, Lindenwood (8-7-1, 5-3-1) suffers a third straight defeat but is fifth in the conference (16 points).

Both squads had several chances to score in regular time and the first overtime period. However, the shots either were too high, hit the post or were saved by keepers Bailey Tracy and Omaha sophomore Katelin Mielke.

Late in the first overtime, the Lions' Autumn Oldendorff picked up her second yellow card. A red card ensued and UNK had a player advantage for the rest of the day.

With time winding down in the second overtime, Lindenwood had the ball in Loper territory. After a throw in, UNK reversed the field.  Sophomore McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) then got behind the Lindenwood defense and had a one-on-one opportunity with Tracy.

Rieber, instead, was tackled hard by the Lion keeper. Tracy was handed a red card and, for the first time all season, true freshman Alexandra Neely had to play keeper for Lindenwood.

UNK's all-time leading scorer, Talcott (Denver, Colo.) stepped to the line and promptly recorded the game winner. Last fall, she had the game winner at Lindenwood and also scored an OT goal to beat Emporia State.

For the day, Mielke had six saves with Hosterman (Papillion) and Talcott each having four shots. UNK took four more shots than LWU, 15-11, and also had two more corners, 7-5.

UNK hosts Fort Hays State Friday night at seven.
