Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams started “Spring Break” by sweeping the NAIA Baker Wildcats, 9-0, Monday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kans.
The Loper women are now 10-2 with the Kearney men at 8-5. This dual against was added to the schedule late and replaces a dual with Division II Illinois-Springfield.
In the men's dual, UNK's only real challenge came at No. 1 singles were junior
Yeswanth Nadella (India) had a battle with Gianfranco Moncada (6-2, 7-6). English sophomore
Jack Nicholson did win in the fourth spot, 8-5.
On the women's side, UNK's top doubles team of juniors
Heather Connolly (Highland Village, Texas) and
Vanessa Gunawan (Indonesia) posted an 8-4 victory. Both then won their singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The Lopers have four more duals this week in Maryville, Mo. (Wed.), Missouri-St. Louis (Thurs.) and MIAA rivals Lindenwood (Fri.) and Truman State (Sat.).
Former RMAC foe Colorado Mesa then visits Kearney next Monday, March 25th.
