Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's tennis team swept Hastings College Wednesday afternoon in Hastings.
The win caps a busy stretch for a Loper squad that now sits at 11-7.
In doubles, junior
Yeswanth Nadella (India) and senior
John Steinke (Grand Island) had a battle in the top spot but hung on for an 8-6 victory. The Lopers then won 8-4 (No. 2) and 8-5 (No. 3) to grab a 3-0 lead in the dual.
Winning all six singles matches, UNK did have to fight for the sweep as junior
Revel Yehezkia (Indonesia) and freshman Dan Faria (Portugal) each had to win a third-set tie breaker.
Playing higher in the lineup than normal, Yehezkia won 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 2 singles with Faria besting Joe Ritzdorf by a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 score in the fifth position.
UNK now gets a well deserved break as they are off until Wednesday, April 3rd, when Concordia comes to town for a night match.
