Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team heads this South this weekend with non-MIAA games at NW Oklahoma State and SW Oklahoma State.

The Lopers (1-1) face the NWOSU Rangers, from the Heartland Conference, Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the contest against the SWOSU Bulldogs set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Live stats are available for only the SWOSU game.

Last year, UNK pounded the Rangers, 4-0, at home. A fledging D2 school, NWOSU is off to a 0-3 start this season, falling to MIAA-members Fort Hays State (5-0), Lindenwood (6-1) and Emporia State (1-0). In 2012, they went 0-16-2.

Freshman midfielder Alyssa Williams (five) and freshman defender Kelsey Eddinger (four) lead the team in shots with junior Caitlin Thorpe (4.18 GAA) being the starting keeper.

Things will be much different on Sunday as Southwestern Oklahoma is coming off a 20-1-1 season that saw them win the Great American Conference (GAC) title and pick up a win in the NCAA's.

Beating MIAA foe Missouri Southern State, 4-1, to start the year, Southwestern fell to D1 member Oral Roberts, 6-1, this past Sunday. They are at West Texas A & M Thursday night.

Senior midfielder Paige Doherty and junior forward Sam Nunez have each scored four points with two others having recorded a goal. Last fall, SWOSU outscored the competition 60-13.

In goal, sophomore Brooke Siler has a 2.67 GAA.

On the Kearney side of the field, a banged up bunch of Lopers played two tight home games last weekend under very hot conditions.

Beating Sioux Falls and falling to SW Minnesota State, UNK has gotten goals from sophomores Samantha and McKinzie Rieber with senior Missy Everson having a team-best four shots.

Sophomore Katelin Mielke and the Loper defense has been sturdy, allowing one goal and 12 total shots.

UNK is at SW Baptist and Central Missouri next weekend to begin MIAA play.
