Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior
Becka Talcott scored a rebound goal in the 34th minute to help Nebraska-Kearney beat Hastings College, 1-0, Wednesday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
Â
This was the first-ever regular season meeting between the Lopers (3-4) and Broncos (4-4). The two have played exhibition games before.
Â
Out shooting Hastings by seven, and taking seven more corners, UNK saw sophomore
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) try a bicycle kick from about 15 yards out in the 34th minute. The shot went near the top of the goal where a leaping Bronco keeper Anna Stewart blocked it.
Â
However, the ball went straight down and Talcott (Denver, Colo.) was there to knock it in. This marked her 14th career goal, tying the school mark set by Raleigh Mercer (2010-11). Talcott also has 35 career points, one behind Mercer.Â
Â
Hastings tried to come back, being a bit more aggressive in the second half which resulted in six off-sides calls. Lincoln East grad Amanda Olson almost knotted the game up in the 76th minute but her shot hit the crossbar.
Â
Hosterman finished with a game-high five shots with Talcott taking three. Freshman Jackie Paloucek (North Platte H.S.) played the first 30 minutes in goal with Omaha sophomore
Katelin Mielke going the rest of the way to earn the win.
