Four Seniors Score as Soccer Tames the Lions

Becka Talcott
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team scored two goals in a three-minute span in the first half, and senior Becka Talcott become the Lopers all-time leading scorer, in a 4-1 victory over Missouri Southern State Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

UNK reaches the .500 mark (4-4, 1-2) while the Lions fall to 2-4-2 (1-3-1). This is the most goals scored by Kearney in its short tenure in the MIAA; the club tallied three at Lindenwood late last fall.

Dominating from the opening kick, the Lopers got on the board in the 21st minute after sophomore McKinzie Rieber (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) sent a corner kick towards the Southern goal. The ball eventually found a wide open Missy Everson (Pasco, Wash.), who scored from about five yards out.

Just three minutes later, senior defender Sarah Talcott (Denver, Colo.) got loose on the left wing and took a shot from 10 yards away that got past Southern keeper Abby Risner.

Southern grabbed the momentum, briefly, right before halftime as Tiffany Laughlin tallied a goal in the 44th minute. Setting up from 30 yards out the left wing, she fired a shot that stayed high enough to find the back of the net.

However, two more Loper seniors tallied goals in the final 45 minutes. Becka Talcott (Denver, Colo.) scored a breakaway goal in the 55th minute and then Kirsti Rehler (Austin, Texas) finished the scoring in the 65th minute after taking another shot from the left wing.

Talcott now has 37 career points on 15 goals. Raliegh Mercer held the Loper records in each category; 36 points and 14 goals.

UNK outshot the Lions 7-1 in the first half and didn't allow Southern a corner until the closing minutes.

On Tuesday, Kearney heads to Tranquility Park in Omaha to take on unbeaten Rockhurst University (5-0-2) from Kansas City. The game is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
