Lopers Battle # 13 Jennies

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The 13th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies scored two second half goals to pull away Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0, Friday night in Warrensburg.

UCM (8-0-1, 5-0-0) remains unbeaten while the Lopers drop to 1-6-1 (1-4-0).

UNK hung with a club that has now gone 48-1-3 in MIAA regular season play since 2010. Junior Ellisa Janzen (Lincoln North Star) had the game's first shot, coming in the 10th minute. It was on goal but saved by UCM freshman keeper Ana Dilkes.

Omaha junior Katelin Mielke started in goal for UNK and she had three saves by the 28th minute. Six minutes before the half, the Jennies lined up for a corner, one of six that would take on the evening.

Freshman Taylor Thompson took the corner and found teammate Baylie Edwards. She then passed the ball to sophomore Abby Rhodes, who recorded her first goal of the season.

Seven minutes into the second half, UCM was awarded a penalty kick. Freshman Alex Yockey converted the shot, her team-leading sixth goal of 2014.

UNK had four shots in the final 45 minutes but none got past Dilkes. Freshman Mikala Modiri iced the contest with a goal in the 83rd minute.

The Jennies outshot the Lopers by eight, 14-6, and didn't allow a corner. UNK also was whistled for 12 fouls while UCM committed just three.

Individually, Mielke had six saves with Papillion junior Montanna Hosterman and North Platte freshman Madalynn Doughty each taking two shots. Besides Janzen, the other shot came off the foot of Kearney junior Nicole Pothoff.
