Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior Mallory Diederich scored two unassisted goals to help Fort Hays State beat Nebraska-Kearney, 4-1, Thursday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
Scoring three second half goals, the Tigers are have now won five in a row to be 11-4-2 (9-4-2). Despite the loss, UNK (4-11-2, 4-8-1) still has a good chance at making the MIAA Tournament.
Playing well in the first half, the Lopers got on the board thanks to the strong leg of Papillion junior
Montanna Hosterman.
At the 7:51 mark, she lined up for an indirect kick and ripped it 40 yards down the center of the field. The ball landed in a group of Lopers and Tigers with junior
Meaghan Pasbrig (Chandler, Ariz.) breaking free.
She got control of the ball and popped it into the back of the net for her second goal of 2014.
UNK was seemingly headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead but Diederich had other ideas. Lining up for a corner kick in the 42nd minute, her low shot managed to trickle into the Kearney goal.
About 20 minutes later, Diederich was at again as she lined up on the right wing after the Lopers committed a foul. Her direct kick was perfectly placed, finding the upper 90 of the UNK goal.
Later, the Tigers recorded goals in the 81st and 88th minutes.
Hays out shot UNK by seven, 14-7, with eight of those coming after the intermission. The Lopers got two shots from Hosterman and Omaha freshman
Carly Brown with Davey taking a team-high four for the Tigers.
UNK hosts Emporia State Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to finish the regular season.
