Kearney, Neb. – A two-week layoff didn't bother the Nebraska-Kearney men's tennis team as they beat William Jewell (Mo.), 8-1, Friday night in Grand Island.

The Lopers (3-0) are ranked 50th in Division II and eighth in the Central Region. The Cardinals, from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, fall to 1-1.

The regionally-ranked doubles team of senior Yeswanth Nadella (India) and Neto Cacace (Brazil) won 8-4 in the top spot with Lincoln senior Kyle Conzemius and junior Jack Nicholson (England) managing an 8-5 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Ahead 3-0 after doubles, UNK rolled through the singles as well, dropping only one set.

Ranked 17th in the Central, Nadella (6-1, 6-0) was dominant at the No. 1 position with both Mohab El Zanaty (Egypt) and Nicholson taking their second sets by 6-0 scores.

William Jewell's Michael Rawat won by injury default in the fourth spot. He lost the first set to Lucas Garces (Spain), 6-3, with the second set tied at four when things were called.

Both UNK squads host NAIA Ottawa (Kans.) Saturday morning at nine.
