Tennis Teams Selected for NCAA Tournaments

Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney men's and women's tennis teams each were selected for the 2042 NCAA Division II Championships Monday night.

A maximum of 48 schools make the men's and women's field. The number of bids each region receives depends on the number of schools that sponsor tennis. This year, the Central receives three spots on the men's side and six on the women's.

Regional winners advance to the "Sweet 16" May 14-17 in Altamonte Springs, Fla. To see the complete women's field, go HERE. For the men's field, go HERE

The Loper women (20-7) are the sixth-seed in the Central # 2 Regional and take on third-seed Northeastern State (21-5) on Saturday, May 3rd, in Sioux Falls, S.D. First serve is at 1:00 p.m.

Earlier this spring in Tahlequah, 31st-ranked NSU posted a 7-2 win over UNK. However, the RiverHawks won two of the singles matches in three sets and took another by a 7-5, 7-5 score.

The second-seeded Augustana Vikings (24-1) are hosting this regional and face seventh-seed Emporia State (16-8) on the other side of the bracket. That dual is set for 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The championship match will be held Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Overall, the UNK women are 4-6 in six previous NCAA trips, making the Sweet 16 in 2009, 2010 and 2012.

On the men's side, the Lopers (18-5) take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats (11-9) for a third time this spring.

The two square off on Monday, May 5th, in Bolivar, Mo., at 1:30 p.m. The winner advances to Florida; Central top-seed NW Missouri State has already reached the "Sweet 16."

Last weekend in the MIAA Tournament, SBU handed UNK a 5-1 setback. The two met during the regular season in Bolivar with the 'Cats posting a 6-3 victory.

The UNK men are 6-11 all-time in the NCAA's, reaching the Sweet 16 in 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2012.
