Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team took 14 more shots and had 10 more corner kicks but fell at Missouri Southern State, 2-0, Thursday night in Joplin.
The Lions improve to 3-3-1 (1-2-0) while the Lopers fall to 1-4-1 (1-2-0).
UNK had eight shots in the first period and nine more after the break but couldn't get the ball past senior keeper Beth Hammons. She made 11 saves in recording her second shutout of the year.
The third highest scoring team in the MIAA, Southern made the most of its three shots. In the 36th minute, freshman Aubrey Lindsey took a pass from junior Karley Thomas and hit a far post shot from the right side. ,
About 40 minutes later, junior Kayla Gajewski took a crossing pass and managed to poke the ball past Loper keeper

"We created plenty of chances but couldn't find the back of the net," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "We fell asleep on two plays and they capitalized. We talked about the commitment that it takes defensively to win games and we came up a bit short in that area."
Having nine corner kicks in the first half, UNK was led by senior
Delanie Phillips (Millard West) and freshman
Carly Brown (Skutt Catholic). All four of Brown's shots were on goal with Phillips having a team-high five shots, three being on goal.
"We will look at the game, talk about the things that we need to be better at and refocus for Saturday," said Maessner.
The Lopers play Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats (5-1-0, 3-0-0) beat Fort Hays State Thursday night, 2-1.
