Hat Trick Does in Lopers in Marshall

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior forward Miranda Cadena tallied a hat trick to power 21st-ranked Southwest Minnesota State to a 6-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon in Marshall, Minn.
 
The Mustangs bounce back from a season-opening loss to Fort Hays State while the Lopers are now 0-1-1 on the year.
 
Last fall, the California-born Cardena was tabbed the Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year after scoring 32 points (13 goals and six assists) and recording a hat trick against Bemidji State.
 
Her second career hat trick came today thanks to goals in the 16th, 19th and 33rd minutes, helping Southwest open up a 4-0 halftime lead.
 
After the 'Stangs tacked on goals in the 60th and 72nd minutes, junior Montanna Hosterman (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) scored an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute.
 
Hosterman had two of UNK's six shots. The others were by senior Jillian Stoumbaugh (Westminster, Colo.), junior Holly Brown (Glenwood Springs, Colo.), junior Jessie Farrar (Grand Island) and freshman Madalynn Doughty (North Platte).

The Lopers were out shot by just a 7-5 margin over the final 45 minutes.

UNK hosts Wayne State Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats had its season-opener on Sunday afternoon at NW Oklahoma State.
