Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Emporia State women's soccer team scored off two set pieces and added a breakaway goal to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0, Friday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.
This is the first of two meetings between the Hornets and Lopers. Tonight's contest was non-conference with the rematch next Sunday counting in the league standings.
ESU (9-5-1) got on the board in the 12th minute when freshman Maria Walden lined up for a free kick in the corner. She found teammate Grace Linton, who tallied her fifth goal of the season.
Fourteen minutes later, freshman Jacki Martinek ran past the UNK defense and recorded her third goal of the fall.
Both teams had three shots in the first half with the Lopers (4-8-3) taking both corners.
After the break, the Hornets had nine of the 12 shots with junior Jaide Allenbrand heading in a corner by Martinek in the 70th minute. Junior keeper Yadira Rivera stopped two shots to record her fifth shutout of 2015.
