Meaghan Pasbrig scored right before halftime and freshman
Ali Hirschman recorded eight saves as Nebraska-Kearney won at Central Oklahoma, 1-0, Friday afternoon in Edmond.
Seeing a three-game win streak come to an end, UCO (6-4-1, 3-1-1) entered the weekend in sole possession of first place in the MIAA with 10 points. UNK is now 4-4-3 (3-1-1) and evens its road record at 2-2-2.
The 13th road win in school history proved to be lucky as Pasbrig (Chandler, Ariz.) tallied her third career goal in the 38th minute. The breakaway shot came 15 yards out and from the left side. Senior
Montanna Hosterman (Papillion) went over top to reach Pasbrig and got the assist.
Hirschman (Millard South H.S.), now with two shutouts this fall, made her final save at the 89:35 mark. Sandwiched around this key save were two UCO shots that went wide.
"Ali was big time and made a few world-class saves to help us secure the win," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "Our back four --
Marika Van Brocklin,
Kadie Walaszczyk,
Kelsie Ienn and
Micheala Hoffman -- were also impressive."
The 'Chos outshot the Lopers, 18-8, with eight of those being on goal. The Loper defense also survived 11 corners without harm.
Individually, Pasbrig and Hosterman each got off three shots with sophomores
Reina Horikawa (Japan) and Van Brocklin (Hastings) each having a shot on goal.
"This was a great win for our program. Everyone who stepped on the field today played well," said
John Maessner. "We've talked about playing with confidence and believing how good we can be. Today we believed and it showed. This team can play with anyone and get results."
UNK is at Northeastern State Sunday afternoon. The RiverHawks (8-2-0, 3-1-0) host Fort Hays State Friday night.
