Kearney, Neb. – The 36th-ranked Nebraska Kearney men's tennis team remained unbeaten on the young season after an
8-1 victory over William Jewell Friday morning in Grand Island.
The Lopers (6-0) swept the doubles and took five of the six singles matches against the Cardinals (0-3) from Liberty, Mo. So far this year in duals, UNK is 18-0 in doubles and 34-2 in singles.
The 2nd-ranked doubles team of
Joey Richards (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and
Lucas Garces (Spain) managed an 8-6 win in the top spot with freshman
Georges Wakim (Egypt) and senior
Jack Nicholson (England) winning 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, UNK rolled from the third through sixth positions, getting a 6-0, 6-1 win from sophomore
Mohab El Zanaty (Egypt) in the fifth spot with Nicholson taking his match by a 6-1, 6-1 score at one spot lower in the order.
On Sunday morning at eight, the Lopers face unbeaten St. Cloud State.
