Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams began the spring dual season by winning 26 of a possible 27 matches this Saturday in Grand Island.
The Loper men swept Nebraska Wesleyan,
9-0, as did the women against
Hastings. The Loper women also beat NWU,
8-1.Ranked 36th nationally, the UNK men (5-0) allowed just one doubles and five singles points in dominating the Prairie Wolves.
In the afternoon against the Broncos, the Lopers (6-0) allowed just nine total points while being pushed a bit more by NWU in the morning. The No. 1 doubles team of
Emily Fink (Elkhorn South H.S.) and
Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) won 9-4 with Rodriguez winning her No. 2 singles match in straight sets (7-5, 6-1).
This weekend, the women host William Jewell (Mo.) Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Grand Island. The men are off until February 20th against WJC.
