Kearney, Neb. – The 33rd-ranked Nebraska Kearney men's tennis team won a couple of close doubles matches to sweep Division I Nebraska Omaha,
4-0, Wednesday afternoon in Omaha.
UNK is now 10-1 while the Mavericks fall to 3-8.
The Lopers grabbed the doubles point thanks to wins of 8-5 (No. 1), 8-7; 7-4 (No. 2) and 8-6 (No. 3). In singles, senior
Jack Nicholson (England) won 6-3, 6-1 in the sixth spot with sophomore
Mohab El Zanaty (Egypt) managing a 7-6 (4), 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles.
Next, freshman
Georges Wakim (Egypt) won the third set to beat Marko Minic in the third position (7-5, 3-6, 6-1). His win secured and ended the dual.
Finally, the three other single matches went unfished; all three were tied at a set apiece.
UNK is off until a home date with Hastings College next Friday.
