Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams racked up two more wins as the Lopers swept Washburn,
8-1 (women) and
6-3 (men), Wednesday afternoon at Harmon Park.
The 27th-ranked UNK men improve to 14-1 (3-0) while the regionally-ranked Loper women are 15-3 (5-2).
In the men's dual against the 44th-ranked Ichabods (3-7, 0-2), UNK won all three doubles matches by identical 8-5 scores and then won between No. 4-6 singles for a second straight dual.
Playing together for only the second time in a dual, senior
Jack Nicholson (England) and sophomore Justin Ngyuen (Louisville, Colo.) won the first team point of the match at No. 3 doubles. Nicholson then secured the dual victory with a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 6 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Egyptian sophomore
Mohab El Zanaty won 6-1, 6-2 over Trey Horton, pushing his record to 15-0.
Against the 'Bod women (2-9, 1-3), UNK led 2-1 after doubles as the Lopers allowed just six combined points in the second and third spots.
Senior
Kristin Weems (Arlington, Texas), ranked 12th in the Central Region, managed an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Casyn Buchman at No. 1 singles. Also an All-MIAA basketball player, Buchman is ranked 17th in the region.
Finally, junior
Paula Jimenez (Spain) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles with senior
Kari Emery (Tucson, Ariz.) winning her No. 6 singles match by a 6-0, 6-1 score.
UNK hosts Emporia State Saturday morning at Harmon Park.
