Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams have both received at-large bids to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The nationally-ranked Loper men (20-4) are the second seed in the Central Region and will play at NW Missouri State (18-6) on Tuesday, May 5th. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
The winner advances to the
NCAA "Sweet 16" May 13-16 in Surprise, Ariz. The Central's top seeded team, Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), receives a regional bye and automatically advances to Arizona.
UNK and Northwest are more than familiar having already played once during the regular season, a 6-3 Northwest win, and in the MIAA Tournament title match, a 5-0 Bearcats victory.
The Loper men are in the NCAA's for a 13th time in school history and for the second straight spring.
On the women's side, UNK (21-7) is the sixth-seed in a seven team regional and will face third-seed NW Missouri State (18-7). The dual will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, in Tahlequah, Okla., with first serve set for 9:30 a.m.
Just last weekend, Northwest beat Kearney, 5-3, in the MIAA tourney third place match. The 'Cats also posted a 5-4 win over UNK on April 17th in Maryville.
The Loper/Bearcat winner will face either second-seeded Northeastern State or seventh-seeded Augustana on Monday (10:00 a.m.) with that winner advancing to Arizona.
UNK is in the NCAA women's tournament for an eighth time and for a second straight season.
