Hosterman Sets Scoring Record in Style

All-Time Leading Scorer Montanna Hosterman
Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior Ashtin Pawloski scored 48 seconds into overtime to help Nebraska-Kearney defeat Missouri Southern State, 2-1, Friday night at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium.

This was the MIAA opener for both teams. UNK is now 2-3-2 with MSSU falling to 2-5-0.

The game winning goal involved three seniors as Montanna Hosterman (Papillion) lined up for a free kick after the Lions had committed a foul. From about 45 yards out, she placed a perfect ball that first found senior Meghan Pasbrig (Chandler, Ariz.) and then went to Pawloski (Hastings), who was right in front of the net.

This is Pawloski's seventh career goal but first since October 26, 2012, as she missed 2013 and 2014 due to injury. She now has 22 career points, fourth on UNK's career list.

"That last play was great. We've practiced that over and over but hadn't executed it in a game when it mattered," said Hosterman. "Games are determined on corners and set pieces so it's huge for us to capitalize tonight. We have a lot of girls that are able to place the ball in front of the goal where it needs to be."

This was Hosterman's 43rd career point, allowing her to break Becka Talcott's career record of 42 points. Nine minutes into the game, Hosterman tallied her 17th career goal, which ties
Talcott's record, on another set piece. After a foul, freshman Keslie Ienn (Papillion) passed the ball to Hosterman who promptly scored from eight yards out.

"I texted Becka and told her I was coming for her. We have a fun little rivalry," said Hosterman. "It's nice to do it at home and in front of my mom and sisters. Every single time they come to a game, home or away, I score. They are my Lucky Charms."

UNK dominated for much of the night, having a 9-1 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes. Southern came on strong late, tallying a goal in the 59th minute as sophomore Hannah Bomar scored in the box after taking a pass from Michaela Altvater.

The Lions had a couple of chances in regulation to win with one shot hitting the crossbar in the 69th minute. UNK had two corners in the closing minutes but couldn't score off them.

"We talked about getting back to basics. We had a good week of training and I think it showed out there," said UNK head coach John Maessner. "Offensively, we created a lot of chances, we connected passes and got forward as much as possible."

Maessner also talked about UNK's new all-time leading scorer.

"Congratulations to Montanna. She is so important to our program and is the best player to come through here."

UNK hosts Southwest Baptist Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Bearcats are 4-3 after a 2-1 win at Fort Hays State.
