Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track & field team won three events and had 21 NCAA provisional efforts at its annual Charlie Foster Pre-Holiday Classic Saturday in Cushing Coliseum.
The non-team scoring meet featured several area teams, including York, Hastings and Northwest Missouri State.
Putting their name on the national list in multiple events were Cairo sophomore
Grant Myers (pole vault and heptathlon) and Hastings true freshman
Justin Engberg (60 hurdles and heptathlon). Overall, the Loper women had seven provisional efforts and the men 14.
UNK struck national pay dirt in the women's pole vault as four met the provisional standard. Hershey senior
Brooke Frederick won (11-7.75) with three others clearing 11-1.75 to place second, fourth and fifth, respectively. The trio consisted of Lincoln senior
Mandy Rathje, Columbus junior
Kylee Study and Bertrand sophomore
Allison Mason.
In the men's pole vault, Myers and Fairfield junior
Bailey Stapleman both cleared 15-7.75 but Myers won based on judge's decision. Bertrand true freshman
Tyrell Younger finished fifth (14-9.50) to join them on the national list.
The hep began Friday evening and concluded in the early afternoon on Saturday. Myers tallied 4,735 points to finish third with Engberg four spots back (4,347) and New Mexico true freshman
Lindsey Larabee ninth (4,294). All three points total crack the UNK top 10 and are on the national list.

In the hep's 60 hurdles, Enberg ran an 8.57 to put his name on the national list in that event as well.
The Loper men had two other events – the mile and shot put – with two provisional qualifiers in each. Kearney senior
Cody Wirth won the mile in 4:30.01 with Central City sophomore
Warren Dexter second (4:33.13) while York sophomore
Andrew Heine was runner up in the shot (53-1). Finally, Elm Creek sophomore Jake Bartling was a spot back (52-2.50).
The other qualifiers were Texas senior
Preston Foley at 60 meters (6.98), Grand Island junior
Colton Stuhr in the triple jump (45-0.25) and McCook junior
Marcus Gonzales in the weight throw (57-11). Finally on the men's side, running unattached, Kearney senior
Garrett Arnold won the 60 hurdles (8.37).
The women's top event outside of the pole vault was the weight throw were Nelson junior
Holly Bower was fifth (51-4.50) and Kansas junior
Abagayle Spilinek sixth (51-2.25). Joining them on the national list was 2016 indoor All-American
Emily Everitt in the high jump (5-6.50). Her effort was good for a runner up finish and ranks seventh nationally, highest among UNK's 21 efforts today.
Finally, Plattsmouth true freshman
April Graham won at 600 yards (1:30.22) and ran the third leg for the 4x320 relay team that was second (3:07.97).
UNK is off until Friday, January 13th.
