Tennis Splits in K.C.

Paula Jimenez
Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams split a dual with the Rockhurst Hawks Friday morning in Kansas City, the 19th-ranked men winning 8-1 and the women falling 6-3.

Now 9-0 on the year, the Kearney men got another close win at No. 1 doubles as junior Lucas Garces (Spain) and sophomore Georges Wakim (Egypt) came out on top 9-7.

To beat a Hawks team (2-2) ranked ninth in the Midwest Region, UNK then dominated singles, winning all six in straight sets. Garces won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles with Wakim taking his No. 5 match by a 6-2, 6-0 score.

The UNK women (6-1) weren't as lucky as the Hawks (2-3) took two of the three doubles matches and then went 4-2 in singles.

Sophomores Emma Neil (Papillion) and Jadyn Trimble (Kearney H.S.) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles with Neil winning an epic tiebreaker, 13-11, to win at No. 5 singles. Missouri freshman Camryn Parnell almost did the same at No. 4 singles but dropped her tiebreaker, 16-14.

UNK's other win came at No. 3 singles where Paula Jimenez (Spain) posted 6-4, 6-4 scores.

On Saturday, the Lopers face Harding (Ark.) in Overland Park.
