Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney tennis teams split a dual with the Rockhurst Hawks Friday morning in Kansas City, the 19th-ranked men winning
8-1 and the women falling
6-3.Now 9-0 on the year, the Kearney men got another close win at No. 1 doubles as junior
Lucas Garces (Spain) and sophomore
Georges Wakim (Egypt) came out on top 9-7.
To beat a Hawks team (2-2) ranked ninth in the Midwest Region, UNK then dominated singles, winning all six in straight sets. Garces won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles with Wakim taking his No. 5 match by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
The UNK women (6-1) weren't as lucky as the Hawks (2-3) took two of the three doubles matches and then went 4-2 in singles.
Sophomores
Emma Neil (Papillion) and
Jadyn Trimble (Kearney H.S.) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles with Neil winning an epic tiebreaker, 13-11, to win at No. 5 singles. Missouri freshman
Camryn Parnell almost did the same at No. 4 singles but dropped her tiebreaker, 16-14.
UNK's other win came at No. 3 singles where
Paula Jimenez (Spain) posted 6-4, 6-4 scores.
On Saturday, the Lopers face Harding (Ark.) in Overland Park.
