Women Advance in MIAA's; No. 18 'Cats Up Next

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis teams swept all three doubles matches to beat Missouri Western State, 5-2, in an MIAA Tournament match Friday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

Due to rain, the match was played inside at the Cooper Tennis Complex.

The third-seeded Lopers (18-5) advance to take on 18th-ranked Southwest Baptist Saturday at noon in the semifinals. The second-seeded Bearcats (20-2) swept Lindenwood, 5-0, in their quarterfinal match Friday morning.

Now 52-17 on the season in doubles, UNK's number three tandem of Paula Jimenez (Spain) and Emma Neil (Papillion) managed an 8-6 win. In the top spot, sophomore Jadyn Trimble (Kearney) and Camryn Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won 8-5 to push their season record to 9-5.

In singles, Mo Western (10-6) won at the first and fourth spots in the lineup to cut the team score to 3-2. Junior lefty Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) then avenged an early season loss to Sarah Giraldo by sweeping her at No. 2 singles, 6-4 & 6-0.

Finally, Jimenez clinched the dual for UNK by rallying past Sofia Aguilera, 3-6, 6-3 & 6-2. The matches for Parnell (No. 5) and Trimble (No. 6) went unfinished.

Back on April 1st, UNK lost by an 8-1 score to SBU in Bolivar.
