Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Kaitlyn Pawloski scored with 51 seconds to go to help Nebraska-Kearney edge Emporia State, 1-0, Friday afternoon in Kansas.
This was the Lopers (3-3-1) final non-conference game of the season. On October 30th, the Hornets (2-3-2) will play an MIAA contest in Kearney.
Emporia has played a series of 1-0 and 0-0 games already this year. It looked like another was in store but Pawloski, making her first collegiate start, tallied her first career goal off a deflection in the box at 89:09. She scored on a three-time All-MIAA keeper Yadira Rivera, who has a 0.66 goals against average.
Rivera saved a shot take by senior
Kristyn Otter (Millard North H.S.). However, Pawloski was there to tap the loose ball to the back post. Sophomore
Tori Weber (Lincoln S.E.) started things with a nice pass.
"Kaitlyn did a great job of following up the shot and was in the perfect spot to knock it in," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "It wasn't one of our best performances but part of our growth as a team is to figure out how to win. We grew today. Anytime you go on the road and can figure out how to get a result, it's progress and you have to be happy."
Emporia got off 21 shots but just seven were on goal. Redshirt freshman
Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic H.S.) had a season-best seven saves to record her third shutout and lower her GAA to 0.93. Besides the shots, Prososki and the Loper defense had to face eight Emporia corners.
Seven different UNK players took a shot in the win, led by Norfolk freshman
Maddie Love with four. A bit banged up, Kearney had four position players go all 90 minutes. That included freshman defender
Molly Willis (Kearney H.S.), who has played all 650 minutes this year.
"It was great to see our players fight for each other and win this game on the road knowing we weren't at our best," said Maessner.
On Sunday afternoon, UNK is in Topeka to face Washburn. The Ichabods (3-2-1) host Fort Hays State Friday night.
