Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The second-ranked Central Missouri Jennies scored twice in the first 12 minutes to beat Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0, Friday night in Warrensburg.
UCM, six-time defending MIAA Champions, has yet to allow a goal in getting out to an 8-0-0 (2-0-0) start.
The Lopers (3-5-1, 0-2-0) were out shot by just an 11-7 margin but couldn't get a ball past two-time All-American keeper Ana Dilkes. She made five saves, including two shots by Colorado sophomore
Micheala Hoffman.
The Jennies, who've now outscored their opponents 20-0 this fall, got on the board at the 1:39 mark with senior Hannah Pyle found the right side of the box. Eleven minutes later freshman Kelsey Mueller tallied an unassisted goal when she ran down the field and found the upper left of the Loper goal.
"There were good stretches of the game where we really got at them," said UNK head coach
John Maessner. "That's encouraging when it's against the No. 2 team in the country."
Besides Hoffman, Lincoln sophomore
Tori Weber had two shots for the Lopers. Early in the second half, Dilkes stopped a shot by Lincoln freshman
Skylar Taylor.
Finally, true freshmen
McKenzie Nabity (Millard South H.S.) and
Emily Thuss (Raymore, Mo.) made their first appearances in a collegiate regular season game and were two of the eight first year players on the pitch for the Lopers.
"We have to get better at finishing our chances and clean up some of the defensive mistakes that are costing us games," said Maessner. "This brings our team closer together knowing that we continue to make progress and continue to get better with every match."
Kearney is at Lindenwood (4-3-1, 1-1-0) Sunday afternoon. The Lions lost to Fort Hays State, 1-0, Friday evening.
