Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's tennis team made quick work of Missouri Western State,
8-1, Saturday afternoon at Harmon Park.
The start time for the MIAA dual was pushed back a bit due to cold temperatures. With the win, UNK is now 7-7 (3-2) with MWSU slipping to 4-10 (0-2).
Ranked seventh in the Central Region, UNK took all three doubles matches to get out to a commanding lead. At the second spot in the order, senior
Sthefani Rodriguez (Venezuela) and sophomore Sherry Sun (China) won 8-1 to push their season mark to 7-7 (4-1 MIAA).
The Griffons changed up their singles lineup a bit and thus UNK surrendered just four points in winning four matches in straight sets. This dominance included Rodriguez (6-0, 6-0) from the sixth spot and junior
Amanda Alvarez (6-1, 6-0) at number three.
Finally, Parnell (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won 6-4, 6-2 at number five singles to join junior
Emma Neil (Papillion) as Lopers with 4-1 singles records in MIAA play.
UNK hosts the Fort Hays State Tigers Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
