Kearney, Neb. – Redshirt sophomore
Jacob Bartling finished up the 2016-17 Nebraska-Kearney athletic season by throwing the shot put at the
NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships Saturday evening in Bradenton, Fla.
The three-day meet began Thursday and finished up Saturday night.
Bartling (Elm Creek) had three attempts and fouled each one. He came with a season-best toss of 57-7, set May 14th at the Loper Last Chance meet.
Senior Coy Blair of Ohio's Tiffin University won the national title thanks to a toss of 64-5.50. The eighth and last All-American spot went to another Ohio product in Findlay's Ben Hahler (56-6).
On Friday, Bartling finished 14th in the discus (162-5) with junior
Emily Everitt 13th in the high jump (5-5.75). A day earlier, seniors
Morgan Benesch (17th in the steeple/10:48.13) and
Cole Wellnitz (20th in the 1,500/4:15.99) ran in prelims with junior
Bailey Stapleman placing 15th in the pole vault (16-3.25).
In the team race, West Texas A&M won the women's national title with St. Augustine's of North Carolina rallying past MIAA-member Lincoln and Ohio's Ashland to finish first on the men's side.
