Week 7 Preview: Home Stand Begins Friday Afternoon

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team begins a four-game home stand when it faces Missouri Southern State Friday at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

The game will have an early kickoff time of 1 p.m. On Sunday the Lopers will again play at one, this time battling the 5th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies. Check the UNK soccer schedule page for media links.

Last year in Joplin the Lopers (1-6-5, 0-2-3) and Lions (2-10-0, 1-4-0) fought to a 2-2 tie. MSSU scored both of its goals in the first half with UNK finding pay dirt in the 39th and 56th minutes. That put the all-time series at 2-3-2 in favor of Mo Southern. So far in 2019 the Lions are 0-5-0 in true road games and have allowed the most goals (35) in the MIAA.

Kearney had fit to be tied of late, setting a new school record for ties in a season and currently with the most in NCAA Division II. Four schools are at four apiece with the D2 record being nine, set by Cal State Chico a decade ago.

One of the Lopers 28 all-times ties came against national power UCM (10-1-1, 4-0-1) in 2012. That day at Cope Stadium UNK great Montanna Hosterman scored in the 20th minute and keeper Marissa Niday made 10 saves help the Lopers pick up a league point. The then-No. 8 Jennies tied the game in the 72nd minute but couldn't get another ball past Niday.

UCM got off 23 shots in Warrensburg last fall to down UNK, 2-0. Scoring in both halves the Jennies finished with 10 corners while Loper keeper Allie Prososki (Kearney Catholic) made six saves.

Next weekend Northeastern State and Rogers State come to town.
