UNK Third in Iowa Tournament

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 669 to finish third out of eight teams at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite Sunday in Waverly, Ia.

The tournament was originally set to be played in Waterloo but moved down the road due to course conditions. The six NSIC and two MIAA squads played at the par 72 Prairie Links G. C.

Rough weather on Saturday saw the average team score be a 362. Things improved on Sunday as the weather warmed up and the winds died down with the teams combining for a 341 average. UNK turned in efforts of 347 and 322. 

Minnesota State (640) and Central Missouri (657) came in ahead of UNK with the Lopers well in front of St. Cloud State (690) and the host Peacocks (697). MSU had four of the top five finishers led by medalist Haley Tollette (8-over 158; 83-75). Including two individuals, the Mavericks had six in the top nine.

California senior Danielle Dickerson paced UNK with an 10th place finish (166; 87-79) with Omaha sophomore Nia Station one spot and one stroke back (87-80). Next, Puerto Rico freshman Faviola Gonzalez had the Lopers to first round score and tied for 12th (168; 86-82) with both Ogallala senior Maaika Mestl (87-82)and Doniphan junior Brandi Lemek (88-81) carding a 169 to tie for 15th. Finally, the field consisted of 49 golfers. 

Kearney heads to Arkansas early next week for the Hardscrabble Invite hosted by Arkansas-Ft. Smith.
