UNK Squads in the Top 40

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney track and field teams are 30th (men) and 39th (women) in the fourth edition of the indoor Division II National Rating Index.

The rankings are released weekly by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association). Schools get points based on the number of individuals ranked in various events.

The Loper men, tallying 25.79 points, have 10 times or marks in the nation's top 30. Kearney sophomore Brayden Sorensen fifth in the high jump (6-10.25), Fremont redshirt freshman Wes Ferguson is seventh in the 800 (school-record 1:50.60) with Hastings junior Seth Simonson ranked in three different events; distance medley relay (11th), 800-meters (16th), and mile (25th).

Grand Valley State of Michigan is the new number one (230.58 points) with Ashland (Ohio), Colorado School of Mines, West Texas A&M and Central Missouri rounding out the top five. Finally, UNK is seventh in the Central Region behind Northwest Missouri, Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern State, Augustana, UCM, and Minnesota State.

On the women's side the Lopers have 19.29 points thanks to seven times/marks in the top 30. McCook senior Tiara Schmidt is fifth (weight throw; school-record 63-1.50) and 12th (shot put; 46-10.75), respectively, with Grand Island senior Mackenzie Puckett 16th in the triple jump (38-7.75) and the DMR team 18th (12:22.53).

GVSU (351.88), Minnesota State (202.29) and UCM (127.67) remain the top three women's squads nationally with the Lopers still 10th in the Central Region. MSU leads with Augustana second and UCM third.

UNK and Fort Hays State are apart of Friday's Loper Tune Up in Cushing Coliseum. That is the final regular season event of the indoor season.
