UNK Battles Spring Weather in Emporia & Lincoln

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney track and field teams had 14 top two finishes at the Midwest Classic and the Husker Spring Kickoff this weekend in Kansas and Lincoln.

The Classic at Emporia State was moved up and held Thursday and Friday with UNL's meet shortened to one day and completed on Friday.

In Kansas, freshman Luke Brachle (Kearney H.S.) won the high jump by going 7-1.75. That ties him with position coach Brayden Sorensen for second in UNK history and second in D2; runner up Nolan Studley (Hastings H.S.) went 6-11.50 to come in second. He reached 7-3 last week to be the current NCAA leader and set a new Loper standard.Luke Brachle

Next, Brachle won the 110-hurdles (14.42) with redshirt sophomore Sam Boettcher (Ord) winning the hammer for a second straight week (192-11). His toss of 204-5 last Saturday at KHS set a new school record. Also on the men's side, senior Rylan Basart (Stockton, Kan.) was runner up in the javelin (228-10) with Canon Duncan (McLouth, Kan.) eighth. His throw of 197-2 moves him into eighth on the all-time list. Finally on the men's side, senior Mitchell Deer (Sidney) was runner up in the 400-hurdles (53.71).

Seniors Lily Novacek (Kearney H.S.) and Brianna Russell (Stamford) led the UNK women at Emporia. Novacek won the hammer (207-0) and was runner up in the discus (153-3) with Russell leading a herd of Lopers in high jump thanks to a winning leap of 5-5.75. At UNL, sophomore Kassidy Stuckey (York H.S.) was second at 800-meters. Her time of 2:12.57 was just behind the 'Huskers Sydney Drevlow (2:12.57) and moves her into seventh on the all-time list. Finally, UNK ranked 1-2-3 in the men's 1,500 with sophomore Carter Hohlen (Lincoln Christian) leading the way in 3:58.57.

UNK heads to Kansas (Butler C.C.) and Texas (West Texas A&M) next weekend.
