D1 Bulldogs Nip the Lopers, 4-3

Kearney, Neb. – The Drake Bulldogs took the doubles point and won three singles matches in straight sets to slip past Nebraska-Kearney, 4-3, Saturday in Des Moines.

This was the Lopers (3-1) spring opener while the Division I 'Dawgs improve to 4-2. This was their sixth dual since January 15.

Sophomore Myrzaiym "Mia" Sherikulova (Kyrgyzstan) and freshman Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) won 6-4 at number two doubles but DU took the other two matches by scores of 6-4 and 6-1 to move ahead 1-0 on the scoreboard.

In singles, Sherikulova and Ranaivo both won their matches in three sets. Ranaivo got past Polish senior Daria Walczk at number two (7-5, 3-6, 1-0) with Sherikuolva besting Norwegian freshman Millie Haagensen (0-6, 6-4, 6-4) one spot lower in the lineup. UNK's other point came when freshman Masha Hatouka (Belarus) swept Texas junior Kendall Hunt at number six (6-4, 6-1).

The Lopers head to Springfield, Mo., next weekend to face Drury (Mo.) and Harding (Ark.).
