Two Lopers on All-MIAA Squad

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior Faviola Gonzalez and freshman Juliana Botero Molina represent the Lopers on the 2022 All-MIAA team.

The squad is voted upon by the leagues nine head coaches and they cannot vote for their own players.

Gonzalez (Cayey, P.R.) makes the second-team with Botero Molina (Colombia) receiving honorable mention. They become the fifth and sixth Lopers to make the squad and this marks the second time in three years UNK has had two players selected. Note there wasn't a 2020 squad due to the pandemic.

Both have played in all 18 rounds to date with Gonzalez first on the team in season stroke average (76.67) and Botero Molina second (77.39). The school-record for season stroke average is 78.19, set by Nia Station in 2018-19. UNK's top four players could all rank in the all-time top five by season's end.

Gonzalez, slated to return in 2022-23 for her extra year of eligibility, has had five rounds this year at or below a 74. She carded a spring-best 73 in the final round of the Wayne Invite on April 12. She is well on-pace to set a new Loper career stroke average record (currently 78.63); UNK Athletic Hall of Famer Carla Dobchuk holds that record now (80.04).

Botero Molina, a rare international player for UNK, was one of four freshmen to make the All-MIAA team. She has managed two 71's this year as well as four other rounds between 72-76.

UNK is at the 2022 MIAA Championships this Thursday-Saturday at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan. This is a 54-hole event with the Lopers in good position to make NCAAA Regionals next month. The selections for that tournament (May 2-4 in Hot Springs, Ark.) will be announced on Tuesday, April 25.
