Lopers Down SWOSU

Kearney, Neb. – Senior catcher Katie Gosker hit her 27th career home run and sophomore infielder Jaiden Harteker hit her first career dinger as Nebraska Kearney downed Southwestern Oklahoma State, 7-2, Sunday afternoon in the Oklahoma City area.

UNK went 1-4 at the Raising Cane's Festival this weekend, fall to Arkansas Tech (12-3) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (4-2) on Saturday.

After Lincoln junior right fielder Carly Dembowski led off the second with a singled to center and was bunted over by Omaha junior left fielder Abbie Jo Gaube, Harteker (Windsor, Colo.) went yard to center. Gosker (Blair) then made it 3-0 Lopers when she started the fourth with a shot to right center. Super senior third baseman Avery Wood (Kearney) then smacked a two-out, two-run single to left to make a 5-0 game.  

Sophomore Sydney Thomason (Ripon, Calif.) shut out the Bulldogs (3-9) over the first four innings with freshman Faith Gaynor (Riverbank, Calif.) tossing scoreless sixth and seventh innings. Thomason, who fanned three, is now 2-1 on the young season.

On Saturday, Ark Tech sophomore Bradi Basler threw a complete game two-hitter and then went 3 for 5 with a run and three RBI's at the plate. She worked around six walks and two wild pitches thanks to seven K's.

Harteker and Thomason had RBI's for UNK who a three-run first. The Golden Suns (9-6) also saw super senior catcher Makenzie Addis go 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBI's from five-hole.

The SEOSU Savage Storm (5-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the early game and then held off the Lopers who tallied two in the fifth. Junior Amberlyn Walsworth tossed a complete game five-hitter as she fanned eight and issued no walks. Freshman DP Iliana Olivares went 2 for 4 with two RBI's and right behind her in the order junior right fielder Gracie Ore was 3 for 3.

Gosker (2 for 3) and Thomas (1 for 3, one run & two RBI's) paced the Lopers.

UNK heads to Topeka next weekend for another tournament.
