Ferguson Picks Up Regional Award, to Run Sunday in the Big Apple

Kearney, Neb. – Five-time Division II national champion Wes Ferguson will run in the 2024 NYC Grand Prix on Sunday, June 9.
 
This is Ferguson's first race since winning his third straight NCAA Division II 800-meter outdoor title on May 25. The Fremont native leaves Nebraska-Kearney with nine All-American honors and eight school-records. Grand Prix

The NYC Grand Prix allows post collegians and professionals a chance to race before the U.S. Olympic Trials later this month in Oregon. The event runs from 10:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (Central) at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island.
 
The meet can be viewed live on Peacock (12-2:30 p.m. Central) and NBC (1-2:30 p.m. Central). The men's 800-meter run is scheduled to begin at 1:53 p.m. (Central) and will be just one heat. Entries won't be released until late Saturday night or the morning of the race. 
 
Recently, the Los Angeles Grand Prix was held (May 18) with the 800-meter field paced by Bryce Hoppel (1:43.68) and Isaiah Jewett (1:44.02). Ferguson's top time is a 1:45.56, set at the 2023 Division II outdoor championships. Some of the LA Grand Prix runners may also race in New York.

On June 3, he was named the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Assoc.) Central Region Male Track Athlete of the Year. He also won the indoor award for the region. A vote of member coaches selects the winner with the National recipient to be named later this month.
