UNK Ties for 2nd at Meadowlark

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's golf team shot an even 600 to tie for second at the MIAA Fall Preview Tuesday afternoon at Meadowlark Hills.

The two-day, 15-team event also featured a Loper "B" team who fired a 301 today, just outside the Top 20 team scores in school history. For the second straight day there were three Eagles including two on the par 5 sixth hole.

Central Missouri fired a 591 (294-297) to win by nine strokes over the Lopers (297-303), Rogers State and Washburn. UNK got off to a bit of a slow start today but rallied up the leaderboard to catch the Hillcats and Ichabods. The "B" team moved up four places thanks to its 301 and carded a 625 to tie for 10^th place. That was better than varsity squads from Missouri Western, Wayne State, Newman and Iowa Western C.C.

Arizona senor Sophia Coleman (6th/147; 75-72) and Kansas sophomore Liz Lyons (T-7th/148; 73-75) had career-best 36-hole scores to pace UNK. Coleman had a 33 on the back nine today thanks to two birdies and seven pars with Lyons managing a 36 after a birdie and six pars. Finally, Coleman shot up seven spots on the leaderboard.

Fort Hays State senior Shayla Nordlund carded a 1-over 143 (73-70) to earn medalist honors by a stroke over Washburn's Susana Grandos Carrion (70-74) and UCM's Mia Rallo (69-75).

Next for UNK, Colombian senior Juliana Botero Molina had her third career 149 (73-76) to tie for ninth with Texas sophomore Sofia Wildeman pacing the "B" team with a 151 (75-76). She tied for 16th place. Finally, the next two Loper finishers came from the second team in Minnesota freshman Calie Dockter (T-24th/152; 79-73) and Kansas sophomore Claire Berquist (T-44th/157; 85-72). Berquist vaulted up 31 places after a career-best round. She missed last spring and the start of this season due to injury.

UNK heads to Lochland in Hastings for the annual Nebraska Intercollegiate Oct. 4-5.
