Brawl in the Falls to Get Things Started

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney soccer team kicks off the 2024 season this weekend in South Dakota with the USF Fall Brawl.

The Lopers will face tourney host Sioux Falls on Friday (Sept. 6, 7 p.m.) and then Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday (Sept. 8, 2 p.m.). In the preseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conf. polls, USF was tabbed 13th and UMC 15th among 15 teams.

Each game can be viewed on The NSIC Network with live stats available as well. The Lopers are 2-0-1 all-time against the USF Cougars and 1-0-0 vs. the UMC Golden Eagles.

In its 15th all-time fall season, the Lopers began camp back on Aug. 19 and have had three scrimmages (two D2 and one NAIA) to get ready for the year. A 31-player roster includes seniors Emily Flowers (Kansas City), Dolcie Hanlon (Grand Junction, Colo.), Angelina Iocca (Old Bridge, N.J.), Katie Pagel (Aurora, Colo.), Ivana Siles (Bolivia), and keeper Makenzie Smith (Lincoln). The newcomers feature grad transfer Keila Gillispie (Newton, Kan.), junior Hanna Schimmer (Council Bluffs, Ia.) and sophomore Anna Thorshalldottir (Iceland).

UNK has two home tournaments the next two weekends (Sept. 13 & 15; Sept. 19 & 21) prior to MIAA play.
