UNK Splits with the Bison in Searcy

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams split with the Harding Bison, the 17th-ranked women winning 7-0 and the men falling, 6-1, Friday in Searcy, Ark.

The women improve to 8-1 while the men are now 5-7. On Saturday, the men face Ouachita Baptist with the women squaring off against Arkansas Tech. Narindra Ranaivo

In the men's dual, sophomore Tom van den Dungen (Netherlands) and freshman Adrian Constantin (Romania) upset the 10th-ranked Bison pair of de Ruiter/Solorzano by a 6-3 score at one doubles. However, HU won the other two matches by 6-3 scores and then took five singles matches in straight sets.

Sophomore Jip Mens (Netherlands) tallied UNK's lone point with a win at two over 27th-ranked Solorzano who retired after losing the second set. Men's is now a team-best 11-2. 

On the women's side, 23rd-ranked Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) beat 14th-ranked Alexia Zarate Valdez in straight sets (-2, -2) at one singles with sophomore Tanya Midzi (Zimbabwe), ranked 18th in the region, out lasting Karli Roux at two. Midzi took the third set, 10-7, with Roux ranked seventh in the Central. Finally in doubles, junior Clare Plachy (Lincoln Pius) and Gamboa clinched the team point with a 6-3 win at three. The Lopers are now 24-2 in doubles.
