Arkansas Trip Complete; Men Host UNO Next Sunday

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams went 1-1 on Saturday, the women recording a third straight 7-0 win with the men suffering its fourth 4-3 loss of the dual season Saturday in Arkdelphia, Ark.

The 17th-ranked women improve to 9-1 with the men at 6-8.

In the win over Arkansas Tech (1-4), the Lopers allowed a combined eight points in doubles and won five singles matches in straight sets. Seniors Alexis Bernthal (Boulder, Colo.) and Masha Hatouka (Belarus) are now 10-0 at two doubles with freshman Jasmine Ben Aba (Tunisia) earning her first collegiate win. She won at four over Meaghan Butler by a 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 score. Finaly, 35th-ranked Narindra Ranaivo (Madagascar) needed extra work to win at two; 6-2, 2-6, 10-5.

The Ouachita Baptist Tigers (4-2) won at one and two doubles and then swept three singles matches to take the men's dual. Senior Phil Exner, ranked second nationally in singles and 12th in doubles, won twice.

UNK didn't go down quietly as they won three singles matches by working overtime. Sophomore Andy Brisdon (U.K.) won at six (6-7, 6-4, 10-5) with junior Alex Jaulin (Australia) winning in two sets at five in straight sets thanks to a 7-6 (6) decision. Finally, sophomore Jip Mens (Netherlands) is now 12-2 in singles after a marathon match at two; 4-6, 6-4, 14-12. The third set featured 13 ties with Mens never trailing.

The men host UNO next Sunday while the women are off until Mar. 16 in Florida.
