Mavericks Win at the Grundy; Florida Spring Break Trip Coming Up

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomores Jip Mens and Tom van den Dungen won in straight sets in singles but Nebraska Kearney fell to Division I Nebraska Omaha, 5-2, Sunday afternoon in Kearney.

The dual was held inside at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center as cold temps kept the 32nd-ranked Lopers (6-9) practicing indoors most of the week. The Mavericks improve to 5-7 with UNK having falling at Creighton, 6-1, back in February.

Both from The Netherlands, Mens is now 13-2 after a 6-1, 7-5 decision at two over Brazilian senior Bryan Kuntz with van den Dungen besting sophomore Christian Trevey at four; 6-4, 6-3. He now has six singles wins in duals.

The Mavs swept doubles and then won three singles matches in straight sets. At one, freshman Adrian Constatin (Romania) battled but fell in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 3-6).

Both UNK squads head to Florida next week with the men facing Lewis (Ill.), No. 2 Flagler (Fla.) and No. 5 Texas-Tyler.
