Lopers Build Some Momentum Heading into Conference

Kearney, Neb. – Sophomore Kassidy Stuckey broke the school record in the mile again and Nebraska Kearney had 11 other first places finishes Friday at the Loper and Nebraska Tune Ups.

These were the final regular season meets of the year as the MIAA Indoor Championships are set for next weekend.

At UNL, Stuckey (York H.S.) led a group of 18 by running a 4:46.55. The effort was seven seconds faster than the runner up and three seconds lower than her previous best time (4:49.52). She also ran 4:52.92 at UNL in January to break a 14-year-old Loper mark (4:56.80). Finally, Stuckey moves up to 12th on the national list.Kassidy Stuckey

Kearney freshman Abigail Burger ran 5:00.01 to finish sixth in this event and move into ninth place in the record books. Also on the women's side, Kansas freshman Lily Brewer was runner up in the 3,000 (10:14.33) with Lincoln sophomore Jordyn Wissing second at 600-meters with the program's seventh fastest time (1:36.55).

The men's best event at Devaney was the 600 as three cracked the top six with each having an all-time top 10 effort. St. Paul senior Conner Wells was runner up (1:18.53), Sidney senior Mitchell Deer third (1:18.72) and Kearney freshman Evan Shaffer sixth (1:20.52). Finally, Brady sophomore Dillon Miller won the 200-meter dash (22.17).

In Cushing Coliseum, Stamford senior Brianna Russell had a career-best 5-8.50 to win the high jump and move up the national list. Next, runner-up Keira Jones (Grand Island) also had a career-best height (5-6.50) to move up to eighth all-time. Also in the field, Burwell freshman Natalie Williams was second in the long jump with the program's eighth best leap (18-6) while Kearney senior Lily Novacek won the weight throw (season-best 61-11.50).

On the track, Elsie sophomore Kendyl Flaming won the 60-hurdles (career-best 9.07) with Page red shirt freshman Presley Heiss second in the 60 (career-best 7.94). The men saw Kearney freshman Luke Brachle (8.00) and North Platte sophomore Jaxon Knisley (career-best 8.06) finish 1-2 in the 60-hurdles. Brachle's effort ties his season best time and ranks 21st in D2.

Finally, winning their respective events were Gretna senior Clayton Kelly (long jump/23-5.25), Kearney junior Zack Watson (vault/14-6.25), Hastings junior Nolan Studley (high jump/6-11.50), Ord sophomore Blake Hinrichs (triple jump/47-0.75) and Ord sophomore Sam Boettcher (weight throw/59-4).

The MIAA's are Feb. 27-Mar. 1 at Pittsburg State.
