Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams rolled past Arkansas-Ft. Smith, 4-1 (men) and 6-1 (women), Sunday in Arkansas.

The 28th-ranked Loper men move to 13-6 (2-2 MIAA) while the women improve to 8-9 (2-4). This was UNK's first-ever trip to Ft. Smith. Due to weather, the duals were pushed back a day.

In the women's dual, UNK allowed just four combined points in doubles to move ahead 1-0. While the Lions won in three sets at two singles, the Lopers won four other matches in straight sets and another by walkover. Junior Fabiana Gamboa (Venezuela) rolled 6-3, 6-0 in the top spot with junior Julia Wartecka (Poland) winning 6-2, 7-5 at four. Finally, freshman Valentina Zamora (Bolivia) allowed just a single point at five.

The men also took the doubles point and then won at two, five and six singles (walkover). Freshman Cesare Carpano (Italy) and junior Andy Brisdon (U.K.) won in straight sets with Brisdon (-4, -5) having to work a bit harder. Finally, the Lions won in three sets at one.

The men host 36th-ranked Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) next Saturday at Harmon Park with the women off until April 22 vs. Fort Hays State.
